How to install Slint64 14.2.1 Screen-by-screen Instructions This tutorial shows how to install Slint Linux (version 14.2.1.2) with the "screen-by-screen" method aimed at new Linux users, mainly for those who rely on speech and/or Braille to read the screen. It has been written by Pawel Loba. Step 01: Download: Please download the Slint ISO image from the following link: http://slackware.uk/slint/x86_64/slint-14.2.1/iso/slint64-14.2.1.3-rc4.iso You can check its sha256 checksum: 8089054988108476b1e25d8b1a8573a78f6ba1541974c90e9cc556860a11b3c6 When you will read this document a new ISO culd have been released. Check here: http://slackware.uk/slint/x86_64/slint-14.2.1/iso/ Step 02: Creating the installation USB: Please get the minimum 4 GB USB stick ready for our installation. A) For Windows users: 1. Download Rufus from the following website: https://rufus.ie/ 2. Open the Rufus program from where you downloaded it to run it. 3. Select Create a bootable disk using and choose ISO Image from the drop-down menu. Click the disc icon and browse to your Slint .iso file and select it. 4. To ensure the flash drive is compatible with UEFI, select FAT32 for "File System". 5. To create the flash drive with the "Press any key to boot from USB" prompt, select the Create extended label and icon files option. 6. When you are done selecting options, click Start When prompted, confirm that you want to erase the flash disk. 7. The .iso files will start copying to the flash drive (the process can take several minutes). When Rufus is done, close the program and eject and remove the flash drive. B) For Linux users: At the console run the following commands: to verify your USB drive: lsblk -o model, name, size, fstype, mountpoint Carefully review the commands to make sure that you did not type the name of a hard disk partition instead of the name of your USB stick. All previous content of the USB stick or a mistaken hard disk partition will be LOST and IRRECOVERABLE. Let's assume that the name of the USB stick be /dev/sdb/. It could be named otherwise so don't copy blindly the following command but adapt it to the actual name of the device. To write the Slint ISO to a USB stick that resides at /dev/sdb type: cp slint64-14.2.1.2.iso /dev/sdb Wait until you get back the prompt. This will take several minutes. Step 03: Insert your Slint installation USB stick into your system and boot from it. After a few seconds You should hear your system talking to you We will now present the screens as they are displayed, and talked. Not all screens are displayed in all cases, so we will present the ones displayed in most cases, followed by comments about it when needed. The comments are preceded by a line with three hyphens to distinguish them from the display, like this one: --- Screen 00: ========== Please type enter to use the sound board --- The message above is displayed only if the machine has several sound cards, probing them until one usable during installation be found. This message is displayed for each sound card found. As soon as hear it, press Enter as maybe this is the last working one and each card is probed only once.
