XView toolkit release 3.2p4
===========================

1. OVERVIEW
-----------
XView is a X11 widget toolkit which implements OPEN LOOK specification.
Its source code was released by Sun in 1992, and since then it is being
developed by community. Note that Sun continued development of proprietary
version of the toolkit and haven't released source code for updates.

XView is bundled with olwm and olvwm window managers and with several apps,
including textedit, clock, olcalc and oledit.

There are several distributions of XView available in the internet, each of
them is targeting different operating system. There are versions for Cygwin,
Debian, Fedora, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, openSUSE, etc. This release intends to be
_the_ XView release, one to rule them all. It compiles and works under most
flavours of Linux, Cygwin, FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD and Solaris 9.

This release is based on xview 3.2p1.4-28.1 from Debian, with Cygwin patch
made by Isaac Henry and George Moody with further enhancements by Jon Turney.
I have ported XView to BSDs and Solaris 9, fixed some bugs and added some
features. For details see CHANGELOG file in root directory.

2. LEGAL
--------
Most of XView is copyrighted by Sun (now Oracle) and is subject to the terms
of OPEN LOOK license, for more information see the LEGAL_NOTICE file. Some new
parts of the distribution are released under the terms of zlib license, this
license is very permissive and is compatible with GPL.

To determine which license is used in certain file, see copyright notice in
that file. If there is none, then it is released under terms found in the
LEGAL_NOTICE file.

3. BUILDING/INSTALLING
----------------------
Read INSTALL file in root directory.

4. PROBLEMS
-----------
 - XView won't work under 64-bit operating systems.

 - On some systems, fonts in XView applications may be abnormally big. To fix
it, configure your X server to use 75dpi fonts, instead of 100dpi.
