How-to install Slint-64-14.2.1.2 with a Braille display using brltty. The Slint installers contain the brltty software, allowing blind users to install then use the system with a Braille device. The installer is polyglot, here are the available languages: English (USA) Dutch French German Greek Norwegian Polish Portuguese (Brazil) Portuguese (Portugal) Russian Spanish (Latin America) Swedish Turkish Ukrainian Boot off the installation media and when you hear a an arpeggio or a 'beep' you can choose a language, then indicate the settings for your braille device. Initially the cursor will be on English (USA). Use the up and arrow keys to navigate in the languages menu. Don't worry if you selected a wrong language: you can change it at the beginning of installation. Press the e key Press the down arrow three times Press the End key Press the space bar Type the device settings in this format: brltty=,,. For instance to install with a Papenmeier device connected through USB with a French text table, type: brltty=pm,usb:,fr_FR Be aware that the US keyboard map will be in use when typing. Press Ctrl+X to boot (do not press Enter!) Within one minute after that the startup messages should be displayed on the Braille device. Your settings will be recorded in the installed system in /etc/brltty.conf, and brltty will be launched at startup by default with these settings, unless you make the file /etc/rc.d/rc.brltty non executable, typing: chmod 0644 /etc/rc.d/rc.brltty Also, if you plug in a Braille terminal connected through USB when the system is running, it will work as relevant udev rules should launch a brltty daemon with the proper driver.
